The Friends of The Arcadia Airport (FOAA) was founded about five years ago for the purpose of leading the way towards an active airport, as several members of the Airport Advisory Committee had the City Council members convinced that Aviation was dead, no one flying.
In our efforts, a small group of Aviation enthusiast developed a model which included a 501 3c corporation and create a reason for Arcadia to become a destination. We accomplished this by hosting pancake breakfast, developing the campgrounds called “Aviation City”, building showers and restrooms, and providing a Courtesy Van for pilots.
The City of Arcadia, who is the owner of the Airport, was a wiling partner as they allowed these activities to occur, and slowly they were convinced that Aviation was not dead, but alive and well.
About a year and half ago, the City decided to take control of the day to day management, lowered the fuel prices and have a seven day a week staff manning the airport.
Arcadia Airport is now a destination and one that we can all be proud of.
With these success in mind, I am pleased to announce that the FOAA will not be renewing our lease on Aviation City and has donated the Courtesy Van to the City for use only as the Airport Courtesy Van.
It is my understanding that Aviation City will continue to be maintained as a camping area and the Courtesy Van will continue to be available for use.
The FOAA feels like we have been very successful in our mission and hope to continue to be a force for the airport and Aviation in general.
